Weekly Lessons
30-minute weekly lessons run like most other peripatetic classes. Children are grouped by age and learn together in their own rock bands, with up to nine children per band. Children choose to become a drummer, guitarist, keyboard player or singer. Coaches teach multiple sessions throughout the day and will be co-ordinated around the needs of the school.
How are lessons funded?
The majority of lessons are funded by parents. Every school is offered a bursary place funded by iRock and there are also fantastic options for schools wishing to fund the programme.
RSL Qualification
iRock offers children enrolled the chance to work towards an exam-free Ofqual-regulated music qualification, delivered in partnership with globally recognised awarding body in Contemporary Arts, RSL. Children are assessed within their regular iRock lessons, allowing them to develop key musical and performance skills naturally—without extra work or additional costs. Our carefully structured curriculum ensures that every child, in every year group, is always working towards their next achievement, making their musical journey both rewarding and fun.
High Quality Teachers
Band Coaches are employed on a permanent basis, and go through extensive training to maintain high-quality teaching. Regional and Area Managers offer them continuous support, observations and feedback, and our dedicated office team is on hand to offer support for all school and parent administration. All iRock staff all have an Enhanced DBS with regular safeguarding and PREVENT training.

Through iRock, children develop musical ability alongside confidence, collaboration, and stage presence. As part of their journey, pupils in Years 2 and 6 (P3 and P7 in Northern Ireland) can achieve a qualification in Group Performance (Music), delivered in partnership with the Contemporary Arts awarding body, RSL Awards who are regulated by Ofqual. This exam-free qualification recognises progress across five key development areas that make up a spiral curriculum; where knowledge and skills are revisited regularly, but each time at a deeper, more challenging level. The five areas are: listening, collaboration, musicality, technicality and character (stage presence). While the qualification is a valuable achievement, the greatest impact comes from the holistic outcomes of these five areas being worked in in every lesson: increased self-esteem, teamwork skills, and confidence that benefit children far beyond the classroom.
